Inventive, Hand-Crafted Design for Film & Television

We’re Gareth Smith and Jenny Lee, husband and wife directors and designers based in Los Angeles with a passion for filmmaking, animation, and design.

We specialize in title design, montage sequences, split-screens, animation, visual effects, and graphics. We strive to collaborate closely with our clients to infuse the work with a strong sense of storytelling and conceptual thinking.

Some highlights:

  • Our work was included in an exhibition at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and the Walker Art Center.

  • In 2016, we were invited to present our work as part of the 21st Century in Design at Viacom exhibit in New York.

  • Smith & Lee have juried title design competitions for SXSW and The Motion Awards by Motionographer.

  • Gareth taught at UCLA Design Media Arts. 

  • Gareth’s short film, This Guy is Falling, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001.

  • Jenny’s work behind the camera has taken her to Tokyo, Tibet, and Sierra Leone.

… And if anyone is still reading, we met while working together on the  Broadway musical Wicked doing video projection design with projection designer Elaine McCarthy. A two-year, long distance relationship ensued, and then we were living in the same city, and then we found ourselves collaborating on a title sequence for Jason Reitman’s first feature, and then sixteen years later, we found ourselves making this website.
